Fatality-Apparently a delivery truck drove (without slowing or
braking) into the
rear of a pickup sitting at a toll booth. submitted by Larry Torrey

Drowning-Photo background included
submitted by Kelly Grayson
Background: 8 year old male drowning
victim. The boy was swimming with his brothers when he went under. They
ran home several hundred yards to get their mother, who then ran to a
local gas station near the lake. She had some trouble making the clerk
understand her - she speaks very little English. Total time down - about
20
minutes, until one of our off-duty medics sprinted the call and dove for
the body. He found him without much trouble, just as our unit arrived on
scene. We ran the code and continued it at the hospital without success,
unfortunately. submitted by Kelly Grayson
The medic in uniform is J.C. Hawkins. The two wet guys are Chris
Hyde, EMT
and Bodie Glennon, EMT/medic student. Bodie is the one in the
water.

Postictal-Photo background included

Paramedic Kelly Grayson with patient.
The patient is a 10 year-old male who had a witnessed seizure.
Arrived on scene to find him postictal, gradually becoming conscious. I
was just a few minutes from the ED, so no IV was attempted. I just put
on a nasal cannula and transported.

Syncope-Photo background included

Paramedic Kelly Grayson with patient.
The woman whose hand I am holding suffered a syncopal episode. Still
unclear as to the cause - no orthostatic changes in vitals, no hx. of
recent illness. Only significant history was atrial fib / CHF /
hypertension. My best bet for the cause of the syncope was TIA or
cardiac. Gave oxygen by non-rebreather (she was unconscious when we put
it on). Monitor showed a-fib at 124, occasional PVCs, no ST changes I
could see in the limb or MCL Leads. No chest pain, dizziness, NV,
dyspnea or headache - only reported complaint was syncope. Started an
IV, drew blood and basically comforted her on the way in, which is what
I am doing in the picture. A week later, I picked her up again, having a
nasty inferior MI that also involved the right ventricle.
