SOP and Funding Manuals. Produced by the US Fire Administration,
FEMA. I have not reviewed
these, and it is likely they have a significant fire service aura and slant. But this does not
eliminate them as a potentially useful source. Go to http://www.usfa.fema.gov/usfapubs/pubs_main.cfm
"The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization"
by Thomas L. Friedman. Many people
don't think that globalization means much in their life, but this outlook is naïve. There are many
issues related to globalization, and they affect everyone. You may be surprised how much this
process relates to how you staff feel about their jobs or their personal lives. It is easy reading, and
I think you will gain a great deal from this. Open your mind and look beyond you own horizon.
"The Witch Doctors: Making Sense of the Management Gurus" by John Micklethwait and Adrian
Wooldridge. Are today's management gurus (Peters, et al) selling sound advise or snake oil? An
alternate look at what the current "industry experts" are saying about how to survive in today's
"new economy". Debunks and disrobes a few folks. You can't read their books without reading
this one.

Mike.
