What we do....
New
EMT Written Exams
The new state written exams at each level have been
rewritten, printed, and are about to be sent from the
state office. Expect their implementation on September
1, 2003.
These new exams are tied directly to the state
objectives. When you get the graded exams back they will
tell you which objectives you missed. The exams are also
weighted by EMT level and time recommended to cover
the subject. What I mean by this is:
1) If the recommended time is 10 hours you can count on
seeing a lot of questions on the subject, as opposed to
objectives designated for a half hour which will have
far fewer questions.
2) If you are someone who teaches class based on the
objectives, you will not find yourself asking,
"Where did that question come from???"
3) If you are teaching EMT-3 there will be a certain
percent of questions allocated to EMT-2 and EMT-1
material.
Soooo...In your instructor classes, we taught you to
teach to the state EMT objectives NOT the test. NOW
teaching to the objectives IS teaching to the test. Pull
out those objectives and make sure you cover them.
And, no, the practicals have not changed, only the
written. It is still mandatory to test the AED at EMT-1
or EMT-2 level as well as National Registry.
Please, look at the list above, and pass this e-mail to
any EMT Instructors not on my list. Don't let your
colleagues be surprised. If you're not on my list that
means I haven't heard from you by e-mail in a while.
Speaking of good news to pass along: We've hired Chuck
Wengenroth as EMS Specialist(was known as the Assistant
Training Coordinator"). It's great to have him
on-board our team. He is a terrific instructor and a
great person. If you haven't met him, you should. Send
him an e-mail of welcome, and don't forget him when you
are looking to our office for answers or as a resource.
Chuck has been a frequent contractor with Southern
Region for the past 10 years. He teaches EMT, ETT, ACLS,
AHA FA & CPR, PEPP, BTLS, twelve-lead, ...with more
instructorships coming every day he works here. Southern
Region EMS is fully staffed again!!!
